The Day We Swapped Work for Stories

At Rostwa, most days begin with plans, measurements and deadlines. On 8 October, the day began the same way, but it ended very differently.

Cultural Day is part of our yearly plan. The work gets done first. Then, at 4 PM, the office changes pace and the evening takes over, all the way to 9 PM.

You could see the change before the celebration even started. This year’s dress code was anything with a touch of kikoi, and suddenly the 15 of us from Admin, Finance and Technical looked less like departments and more like one big family getting ready for an occasion.

Then came the part everyone really came for. Culture was on the programme, and it was presented to the team. After that, the trivia began. A quiz about culture sounds easy until you are asked about something from your own side of the story, and a colleague from another department knows the answer better than you do.

And then came the charades. Of everything that happened that evening, charades made Cultural Day special. In this game nobody can hide behind a job title. The engineer acts, the accountant guesses, the whole room shouts, and for a few minutes it does not matter who sits in which office.

There was more besides, and it all pointed to the same thing. Cultural Day is the evening we spend building something among ourselves, which is the team.

We already look forward to the next one.

Cultural Day, 8 October.
